Friday January 30, Dirty Dutch head honcho Chuckie hosts METAMORPHOSISM at Pacha New York, with an extended five-hour set.

What exactly is metamorphosism? It’s a return to how things used to be – it’s all about the music. You won’t get a pre-mixed set, and no one will be “just pushing play”

Chuckie says:

‘It’s a pity that nowadays the set times are as fixed as they are. As a DJ you don’t often get the space to respond to the audience, and playing half an hour longer than agreed beforehand, for example, is just out of the question. Moreover, the technology makes it very easy nowadays to stand behind a deck and fake that you’re spinning. At events without content or quality you might as well leave out the DJ in the future, because he has his hands in the air more than on the decks. Every night I’m armed with thousands of tracks on my USB stick. I want to remain a DJ. I refuse to deceive my fans by playing a premixed set. A DJ is supposed to respond to the atmosphere of the evening. That’s also what I expect from the guest DJs. We have no place at Dirty Dutch for DJs who play a premix.’

Tickets available here.

JP2 644

Words: Bruce Tantum

The beloved Gotham jock hits the decks for a night of JP classics.

“I feel so comfortable playing here,” the veteran Jonathan Peters says on a weekday afternoon while hanging out on Pacha New York’s mezzanine, waiting for a shutterbug to set up for a photo shoot. And why wouldn’t he? After all, as longtime clubbers know, this is the same building that transformed him into one of NYC’s most beloved four-to-the-floor DJs—for seven years, starting in 1997, Peters held an iconic residency here when the address served as the second incarnation of the seminal New York club Sound Factory. That stint that turned Peters into the star he is today, but of course, he’s also long been one of Pacha’s most popular jocks—and on Saturday 13th, he makes a long-awaited return the club’s DJ booth for another of his twisting, driving, all-night-long sessions of Jonathan Peters classics.

Turn Down For What?! Four very simple words, but one incredibly catchy phrase that has taken 2014 by a storm! As 2015 approaches us in just a few short weeks, we begin to reminisce some of pop culture’s greatest moments over the past year – Maybe Michael Jackson’s holographic performance at the Billboard Music Awards comes to mind (… still super weird), or how about the trend of “big butts” thanks to Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda, Jennifer Lopez’s Booty, or Kim Kardashian’s actual derriere! However, thanks to the collaboration between DJ Snake & Lil Jon, Turn Down For What is right up at the top of this list!
