Who would have thought that when The Chainsmokers released the annoyingly catchy track #Selfie that they would become one of the hottest acts in EDM?! Alex Pall and Drew Taggart certainly didn’t when they released the track as a joke on their Soundcloud page. In fact, we still remember when we booked the guys as closing DJs right here at Pacha! This Saturday, The Chainsmokers are back at Pacha NYC to headline after dominating the EDM world! Check out some of the biggest moments in their career after the jump.
The Chainsmokers have closed the Pacha NYC dancefloor for everyone from Nervo to Shermanology back in 2012-2013, for a small fee of $300. These days, they’re headlining their own parties at the club (for a little more than $300), and we couldn’t be more proud of the NYC natives’ success!
The New York City natives were big in the local nightlife scene when they released #Selfie, joking about the girls at the clubs taking selfies using the phrase “let me take a selfie”.
“Honestly, “#Selfie” is kind of a phenomenon for us. We made it and thought it was funny and put it out as an edit. Then Dim Mak wanted to buy it, and they bought it from us and put it out officially and we made a video for it. This was all just because we thought it was fun. And then the song just kind of took on a life of its own. Which is honestly really great because it’s brought in a new audience of people that listen to music that we’ve made that we’re more passionate about.”
After the release of #Selfie, the duo released another hot track “Kanye” – referring to everyone’s favorite narcissistic rapper and future President of the United States Kanye West. One after the next, The Chainsmokers released all of your favorite tracks – from “Let You Go” to “Good Intentions”. On their way to EDM domination, the duo headlined at some of the biggest festivals in the world
In 2015, The Chainsmokers released the feel good anthem “Roses”. Taking over radio stations everywhere, the track is one that you can’t help but sing along with every time you hear it. Even Justin Bieber loves it! Hear that Beliebers?
Most recently, the guys dropped their brand new track “Split” with the one and only Tiesto on his label Musical Freedom.
What’s next for The Chainsmokers? We think world domination 😉
